The Bauchi State Government says it has spent about N150 million on construction of additional waste collection sites in the state.
Alhaji Hamisu Shira, Commissioner for Housing and Environment, made the disclosure in an interview on Friday, November 12, 2021, in Bauchi, the state capital.
Shira said that the amount also covered expenditure on the procurement of additional payloaders, repairs of six trucks and a water tanker.
“The payloaders and trucks are to be used for waste clearance exercise at the collection sites,” he said.
The commissioner said that the ministry had conducted a stakeholders’ meeting designed to mapped out strategies towards enhancing environmental protection in the state.
He reitrated the commitment of the state government to ensure compliance with the monthly environmental sanitation exercise, to protect the environment and safeguard public health.
“We will not relent in ensuring effective enforcement of the existing environmental laws in the state,” he said, adding that most of the environmental problems were man made.
