Commissioner for Environment, Malam Shehu Ndanusa, said this during the launching of the Climate Change Club at Government High School, Adeta, Ilorin, on Thursday, February 8, 2024.

Ndanusa explained that when trees are removed illegally, the environment becomes unsustainable due to the loss of biodiversity and pressure on the entire ecosystem.

He said that the outcome would affect all aspects of lives; ranging from health, food, security of lives and property, as well as others that have to do with our daily lives.

“We want the students to be well informed about the Climate Change and support the government in eradicating deforestation and indiscriminate dumping of refuse.

“You should join us in sustaining a clean and healthy environment,” the Commissioner appealed to the students.

He reiterated the commitment of the present administration to empower the Ministry of Environment and its agencies to strengthen enforcement and compliance with existing laws.

He stressed that the government would ensure compliance with the laws prohibiting illegal logging and sanctioning environmental violators.

Mr Kadir Muhammad, the Principal of Government High School, Adeta, commended the initiative for believing in the youths and involving them.

Muhammed assured the government of the school’s support for the Climate Change Club to curb deforestation and sustain a clean and healthy environment in the state.

The event was attended by members of Kwara Inter-ministerial Committee on Climate Change and other environmental health professionals and NGOs.
