Radio Report: Government’s E-waste intervention

Nigeria will in the next two years build an electronic waste or E-waste recycling system to serve as model for E-waste management in Africa and the world at large.

This follows the inception of Federal Government’s Extended Producers Responsibility (EPR) programme which, among others, mandates manufacturers and importers to be responsible for the management of wastes from their products.

At the formal launch and inception meeting of the project tagged, “Circular economy approaches for the Electronic Sectors in Nigeria”, the Permanent Secretary ,Federal Ministry of Environment, Mrs. Abimbola Odushote, noted that the programme would involve expansion of E-waste recycling plants across the country, and make waste a resource for job and wealth creation.
